ChunJiDo

Universal Way to Enlightenment

ChunJiDo is a unique collaboration of three arts: Kempo, Jujitsu and Taekwondo. The philosophy of ChunJiDo incorporates the most useful techniques of each of these traditional arts to comprise a system that instills the honor and integrity of traditional arts, with the confidence of reality defense in its practitioners. Recognized across the United States and in Europe, ChunJiDo is a growing art that provides opportunity for all ages to practice and enjoy the Martial Arts.

Kempo is a system of Karate that utilizes strong hand techniques with multiple strikes to vital areas. Its origin is believed to have developed from the Shaolin temples in China and was commonly referred to as "Chinese Hand."

Jujitsu is a Japanese Art known as the "Gentle Art." Jujitsu is comprised of joint locks and throwing techniques for close quarter self-defense, and even though it is a very ancient art it is still known as one of the most effective self-defense systems in Martial Arts.

Taekwondo, which translates as "The Way of the Hand and Foot," is a fairly modern Korean Martial Art that is comprised of powerful hand techniques with dynamic kicks. Taekwondo promotes excellent conditioning and flexibility.

Testimonials

Students

  • "I used to be in karate for an activity, you know just something to do, until I found ChunJiDo and Master Cutrell. Through them I began to love and embrace martial arts as a way of life. Master Cutrell has always been like a father to me, and I hope I can be half the teacher he is when it is all said and done." - Kyle Lawton, 4th Degree Black Belt
  • "I have trained in martial arts for about ten and a half years now. Being only 18 years old, that is half of my life! Throughout those ten years, I have experienced many obstacles and changes in all areas of my life, as all people do. However, the one constant throughout the entire time has been martial arts. My training has helped me develop the mindset to overcome any obstacle or challenge placed in my path and though I have sometimes had to step back, maybe take a detour, or just forge ahead, martial arts has helped me to 'stay the path' of life. More importantly, Evansville ChunJiDo Academies and head instructor Master Cutrell have always been an open door for me. I can always go to class or talk to Master Cutrell when I am faced with adversity and feel that maybe I can't go on. When I step into the dojo, I know in my heart that everything will be all right. And now, although, I am physically separated by over 250 miles due to my choice of college, I know that Master Cutrell, all of my fellow black belts, and all the students of Evansville ChunJiDo Academies will always be there with open arms to welcome me back to my home in the martial arts, because Evansville ChunJiDo Academies is more than a dojo, I truly believe it is a home. Martial arts has done more than develop my character...ChunJiDo IS my character." - Nathan Meredith, 4th Degree Black Belt
  • "I came to Evansville ChunJiDo Academies 8 years ago, I was extremely shy and didn't know if I could stick with this. But, Master Cutrell makes it impossible for you to quit. Somehow, he seems to bring out the best in anyone that he teaches. He always tells us that each one of us has our own gift, and that is important to know. He will never cut anyone down. He has a way of telling you what you need to do, but constructively. I am glad that Evansville ChunJiDo Academies was the first dojo that I walked into and joined because my life has been so blessed because of it. ChunJiDo is in my blood and it will always be a part of me." - Michelle Lankford, 2nd Degree Black Belt
  • "When my children started taking classes at Evansville ChunJiDo Academies, I didn't anticipate becoming a student there, as well. I was so impressed by Master Cutrell's training methods and by the overall atmosphere of the school. When I began taking classes, it was like becoming part of a family. ChunJiDo has helped me improve my physical strength, flexibility, endurance, and has made me feel more peaceful and grounded. When I have a challenging day, I can count on Master Cutrell and his wonderful instructors to help me focus, and by the time I leave class, I feel like my life is back in balance. I can't imagine myself or my family going to any other dojo." - Jessi Wilkins
