Duncan’s Martial Arts Academy is the culmination of over thirty years of martial arts training by SiGung Edward R. “Rudy” Duncan. After spending many years training in a variety of styles ranging from Aikido to Tae Kwon Do and Kali-Escrima, SiGung Duncan began teaching Kempo around 1980. Over the next 20 years, SiGung Duncan taught in several locations such as Geddes, Camillus, Baldwinville, Court Street, and the North Area Athletic Club on Pond Street in 1998. As part of the North Area Athletic Club, the focus of SiGung Duncan’s teachings became the youth of the surrounding neighborhood. While teaching at the North Area Athletic Club, SiGung Duncan had a policy of free martial arts instruction for anyone under 18 years of age allowed the Academy to positively impact the lives of many “at risk” youth. SiGung Duncan and the Instructors are very proud of the students that came to that location and how they have grown to become positive role models.

In 2004, Duncan’s Martial Arts Academy moved to its new location. Located now on New Court Ave, SiGung Duncan and his instructors continue their dedication to the students and families providing affordable quality instruction.

The objective of the adult program is to develop well rounded martial artists, who have both the historical knowledge of their art as well as the ability to use it in an emergency situation. SiGung Duncan often invites masters of other styles to the Academy to guest teach. This allows the students to gain additional martial arts knowledge beyond the Kempo realm.

Opening in 1999 and incorporating in 2006, Wing Chun & Escirma International Ltd. deals in the production/distribution of martial art DVDs, delivering national and international seminars, and providing private lessons. The company specializes in world martial art championships and movie productions.

Sport Studio in Zenica, was founded in February 2004 as the Educational Center for Martial Arts with the goal to protect youth from the negative environment of the streets. Dr. Amir Topoljak was a key contributor in the establishment and expansion of the martial sports in Bosnia-Herzegovina and became the Chief Instructor of the Sport Studio in Zenica. Dr. Topoljak also has the task of organizing the examination dates and records of the great masters of the martial sports in Bosnia. Programs at the Sport Studio include, Taekwondo, Kickboxing, Karate, Kung Fu, Wushu, Wing Chun, and Self-defense Free Fight System.

Sport Studio has a highly trained and highly qualified staff of coaches and instructors of the martial sports. Each year the studio organizes championship tournaments and seminars. The Sport Studio Martial Arts Association is recognized by many world and international sports organizations and maintain the highest standards in martial arts training.

Christos Stamatiadis Wushu Seminars, held on the island of Thassos, Greece, offers opportunities on short term Chinese Martial Arts training “Holiday and Wushu”, as well as the possibility of a comprehensive education in Traditional Chinese Wushu “Wushu Education”.

It doesn’t matter if you are new to Wushu/Kungfu, beginner or advanced, or whether you train in Chinese Martial Arts or not. The seminars are open to everyone interested.

There are seminars in traditional fist and weapon techniques (Gun, Dao, Jian). The Daoist styles offered are Tai Ji Quan and San Huang Pao Chui. The Buddhist styles are Chang Quan and Shaolin Quan. There are also seminars offered in Sanda and self defence.

Tatakai Jikoboei Do Kempo ( The Way of Combat Self Defence ) was founded in March 2003 by Sensei Paul Corrigan .

Having studied numerous martial arts from the age of 11, Sensei Corrigan decided he needed a simple yet effective system of self defence. With this in mind TJD Kempo was formulated using the experiences Sensei Corrigan had aquired through years of employment in Security and Law Enforcement.

TJD Kempo has elements of a number of arts studied by it’s founder. These include; Shotokan Karate, Combat Karate, Dragon Kenpo, Kenpo Karate, Freestyle Karate, and Jujitsu. Specific elements from these arts plus many more are combined in this effective system of self defence. The system has captured the imagination of numerous practitioners due to it’s simple yet effective concepts and techniques.

Black’s Martial Arts Academy was established in 1995 by Master Thomas Black. While the school began in Du Quoin, it was moved to Carbondale in 2000. In 2004, the school moved to its present location in Bowen Gym. The school is located in the 12,000 square foot south east wing of Bowen Gym. It has a fully padded floor and a retail shop.

Our students have the opportunity to compete in tournaments at state, national, and international levels. Each summer our school hosts the Alliance Grand Nationals in Bowen Gym.

We offer day camps during school breaks, the summer months, and for tournament training. These camps are open to children and adults. Private lessons can be scheduled with Master Black.

Gake Dojo was founded in 1998 by Johan Pettersson and consists of a number of schools in the south of Sweden. Gake Dojo’s main activity is to practise jujutsu as self-defence, but they also run courses in the traditional arts of budo.

The mission of Hakutsuru ( White Crane) Rakanken ( Monk Fist) International is to preserve and promote the history, heritage , kata, and techniques of the early masters of ancient Fujian China and the Ryukyu Archipelago Kingdom before it is lost forever to antiquity. It is here in this ancient part of the would that these early masters forged the foundation for most modern day martial arts. Hakutsuru Rakanken International is a non-sport, non-commercial martial arts and healing arts(Qigong) international association committed to preserving the ancient ways.

Mario Schapp is the founder and operator of Satori Arts. He is a Gracie Jiu Jitsu Level 1 Instructor certified by the Gracie Jiu- Jitsu Academy in Torrance, Ca.

DONZELLA ARNIS IS A COMBINATION OF FILIPINO STICK FIGHTING SYSTEMS, A COMPLETE CURRICULUM OF SINGLE STICK, DOUBLE STICK, STICK AND KNIFE, KNIFE , EMPTY HAND AND FLEXIBLE WEAPONS. GURO DONZELLA IS TEACHING THIS STICK SYSTEM TO VARIOUS SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THE DONZELLA ARNIS SYSTEM HAS A NOVICE AND THREE MORE ADVANCE LEVELS OF LEARNING.

THE NOVICE CONSISTS OF SINGLE STICK STRIKE ANGLES ALONG WITH OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE FOOTWORK PATTERNS. BASIC BLOCKS WITH COUNTER STRIKES AND DOUBLE STICK DRILLS.

LEVEL ONE CONSISTS OF ADVANCE DOUBLE STICK DRILLS ALONG WITH FOOTWORK. COUNTER TECHNIQUES USING MORE ANGLES OF ATTACK. STICK AND KNIFE, KNIFE AND EMPTY HAND LOCKING.

LEVEL TWO IS A COMBINATION OF NOVICE AND LEVEL ONE WITH ADDED ADVANCE DRILLS AND SPARRING.

LEVEL THREE CONCENTRATES ON COMBAT USE OF THE WEAPONS THROUGH ALL RANGES OF ATTACK.

SANCHI-RYU KARATE (SRK): An Original American Martial Arts System developed by Mr. Fike in 1977, which was fully established 1n 1987. SRK combines techniques from various arts that Mr. Fike studied since 1967, specifically Karate, Judo, Jujutsu, Hapkido, Kung-Fu, Wrestling & Boxing. With over 40 years of experience with the arts, and Senior Black Belt ranking in numerous arts, Mr. Fike has trained extensively across the U.S. and Asia, including other exotic locations across the globe. SRK emphasizes the Traditional martial arts philosophy of avoiding all conflicts wherever and whenever possible; however, when faced with a determined attacker and no alternative to escape, the Sanchi-Ryu student chooses to utilize three levels of defense to stop the intentions of the attacker.

First the student attempts avoidance techniques (passive defense) to keep from being injured. If the attacker continued, the student moves to deflection techniques (soft defense) to redirect the attack; then if necessary and with intensity, the student applies blocking techniques (hard defense) which emphasizes powerful and direct blocks to stop the attacker in his tracts. If following the use of these defenses, the attacker still persists, then the student changes his attitude from that of defensive to offensive, and decisively strikes a quick and final blow to end the attack. This may be in the form of a kick, a punch, a wristlock or throw.

SRK translates into the “School of Three Breathes”. This relates to the escalation discussed above as well as the time it should take to neutralize an attack; three breaths or three seconds. SRK takes advantage of the numerous special techniques drawn from many martial arts, but is best known for its effectiveness as a form of self defense.
