Richard Fike is the Director of the Madison Combined Martial Arts Association and Soke of Sanchi-Ryu Karate (sanchi-ryu.com) with a primary core program based on Karate, Judo and Jujitsu. Sanchi-Ryu is an Original American Martial Arts System developed by Mr. Fike in 1977, and was fully established in 1987. Sanchi-Ryu emphasizes the traditional martial arts philosophy of avoiding all conflicts wherever and whenever possible; however, when faced with a determined attacker and no alternative to escape, the Sanchi-Ryu student chooses to utilize three levels of defense to stop the intentions of the attacker. The three levels being; avoidance, deflection, and blocking. If following the use of these defenses, the attacker still persists, then the student changes his attitude from that of defensive to offensive, and Sanchi-Ryu (translated as the “School of Three Breathes”) practitioners decisively strike a quick and final blow to end the attack. This may be in the form of a kick, a punch, a wristlock or throw.
Mr. Fike is also the Director of the Close Quarter Combat Skills Institute (cqcsi.com), a unique training organization providing unconventional training to “at risk” individuals and organizations. Mr. Fike is a retired Officer following a 26 year career with the U.S. Government assigned to extremely aggressive special mission units.
He is a regular advisor and trainer on small unit tactics and individual survival to various federal, military and private organizations across the United States and abroad, and is a licensed instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council. In his spare time, he can be found working as a Stunt Coordinator (stuntpredatorsusa.com) on the set of such action films as “The Avengers, Warrior, I Alex Cross and Unstoppable” to name a few.
